High Electricity Bills & Frequent Breakdowns — Solved

💸 Electricity Costs Keep Rising

Older SCR power supplies waste 10–20% more energy per ton of metal melted. At high production volumes, this waste adds up to tens of thousands of dollars annually.

🔴 Frequent Tripping & Overheating

Inadequate protection circuits lead to IGBT or SCR failures that shut down your entire furnace line — often at the worst possible time.

🔌 Poor Power Factor Penalties

Low power factor (0.75–0.85 in older systems) triggers reactive power penalties from your utility. A 0.95+ power factor eliminates these extra charges.

🔧 Difficult to Find Replacement Parts

Generic or unknown-brand IGBT modules are impossible to source quickly. Each day of downtime costs thousands in lost production.

IGBT Power Supply

The YuRun IGBT Medium Frequency Power Supply is the heart of a modern induction melting system. Built with Infineon (Germany) or Fuji (Japan) IGBT modules — the same brands used in European industrial equipment — it delivers reliable, efficient power from 50kW to 3000kW with automatic frequency tracking from 100Hz to 2500Hz.

Unlike SCR power supplies that require external reactive power compensation and protection circuits, IGBT technology provides built-in self-shutoff protection against overcurrent, overvoltage, and overtemperature. The result is fewer components, fewer failure points, and significantly lower maintenance costs over the furnace's operating life.

Built to Solve Real Production Problems

10–20% Energy Savings vs SCR

IGBT inverter technology achieves conversion efficiency of 95%+. In real-world production, this means 480–560 kWh per ton of steel vs 580–650 kWh for SCR furnaces — a direct electricity cost reduction.

🛡️

Self-Shutoff IGBT Protection

IGBT modules have built-in gate driver protection circuits that respond in microseconds to overcurrent events — far faster than external fuse or relay protection. No separate protection cabinet required.

🎛️

Automatic Frequency Tracking

As furnace load changes during melting (solid → liquid → pouring temperature), the inverter automatically adjusts frequency to maintain maximum power transfer. No manual frequency adjustment needed.

🔄

Soft Start Technology

Power ramps up gradually over 2–5 seconds instead of slamming full power onto the grid. Eliminates voltage spikes that trip circuit breakers and protects induction coil insulation from thermal shock.

📊

PLC Data Logging & Diagnostics

Siemens or Mitsubishi PLC records production data, fault codes, and operating hours. Export data via USB for production management or remote diagnosis by our engineers via TeamViewer.

🔧

Modular Design for Fast Repair

IGBT modules are plug-in replaceable. If a module fails, a trained technician can swap it in 30–60 minutes. Infineon and Fuji modules are available worldwide from authorized distributors.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an IGBT module last?
Under normal operating conditions with proper water cooling, Infineon and Fuji IGBT modules have a design life of 7–10 years. Most early failures (within warranty period) are caused by cooling water issues — we strongly recommend our closed-loop cooling system to protect module life.
Can I upgrade my existing SCR furnace to IGBT?
Yes, in most cases. Our engineers will assess your existing furnace coil, transformer, and power infrastructure. An IGBT power supply can often replace an SCR cabinet using the same three-phase input and furnace coil connections, with only minor wiring changes.
What happens when an IGBT module fails?
The self-protection circuit immediately shuts down the affected module and triggers a fault alarm. The furnace stops safely. Because IGBT modules are plug-in components, a spare module can be installed in 30–60 minutes. We recommend all customers keep one spare module on-site.
Why is IGBT power factor higher than SCR?
SCR (thyristor) rectifiers produce significant reactive power (Q) because current lags voltage. IGBT-based full-bridge inverters with active rectification achieve near-unity power factor (0.95+), eliminating reactive power penalties from your utility provider.
What is the lead time for a replacement power supply?
Standard power supplies (50kW–500kW) ship within 15–25 days. Larger units (750kW–3000kW) require 30–45 days. For urgent replacement of a failed unit, we offer expedited production — contact us with your current furnace specs and we will advise on the fastest solution.
